Cow's horn or 270¦ gate vendors

Cow's horn or 270¦ gate vendors

Cow's horn or 270¦ gate vendors

(OP)
We have recently discovered the advantages of cow's horn or 270° gates (Ringelflow GRF-1 type),which we now specify in place of submarine gates. This has allowed us to improve the appearance of our products, as the residual gate pip is moved from the visible outside wall to inside where it is not seen. The problem we have is in obtaining a reliable supply. The only supplier that we have presently identified is Exaflow in Germany who can't make enough of them at the moment and have "produktion" problems. Our toolmaker in Taiwan has offered to make his version of this gate (in two parts), but at the moment we would prefer a single piece insert. Does anyone know of an alternative supplier?

RE: Cow's horn or 270¦ gate vendors

They are normally  made by the toolmaker when the mould is made. No big deal.

They can be burnt into the mould or cut into split inserts. Either method works fine if done right.

RE: Cow's horn or 270¦ gate vendors

There is another supplier called iMold (www.imold.com).  I think they spun off of the Exaflow company, or vice versa...can't remember.  Give them a call to see if they can help you.

You can also get them thru, www.pcs-company.com.  They are a distributer for imold.  They have a variety of sizes and seem like a nice product.  I have only used them once, and they worked very well.

I checked out the latchescmk recommendation with regard to the imold products. At the moment they only make 180° gates which they call "cashew" gates - also known as "banana" gates.  We plan to make use of this type also to gate into the width of a wall at the parting line. We are taking patprimmer's advice and will get our toolmaker to make split 270° gates which can be removed for clearing without taking the whole tool apart. We have not given up on the Ringelflow parts but have to refine our design for them, and our moulding technique when using them.
