drilling and tapping?

drilling and tapping?

drilling and tapping?

(OP)
Hi  i'm a newby in this machining industry and i want to ask if anybody knows where i can find info on drilling and tapping  for sfm and feed, and also what is the formula for  sfm and feed reduction when the holes are deep.Thank you

RE: drilling and tapping?

Machinery's Handbook or the drill manufacturer.  For "deep" holes you don't want to experiment with, talk to the tooling rep.  If they don't know, they'll get you in contact with someone that does.

Drilling:
http://www.precisiontwistdrill.com/techhelp/help_pages/jobber_length_amg.asp

Tapping speed:

A ballpark figure might be to start out around 50% of the RPM you'd use for a high speed steel twist drill of the same diameter, then adjust up or down based on results

Tapping feed:

IPM = inches per minute = RPM * thread lead (lead = pitch on a single-start thread)

IPR = inches per revolution = thread lead
