Fire brahces pipes flow velocity

Fire brahces pipes flow velocity

Fire brahces pipes flow velocity

(OP)
I have a custome who want to use 8" pipe to flow 2,925 us gpm. In this case the flow velocity es aproximatelly 18.78 fps.

Is this velocity aceptable?
NFPA hava a maximum velocity limits in branches pipes for foam solution and spray water system (cooling water for vertical storage tanks)?

RE: Fire brahces pipes flow velocity

I don't know about NFPA limits, but you're into trouble territory for surge pressures with 17 fps.  Over 5 fps problems are possible, over 10 probably will have some, over 15, watch it.  Do a surge analysis.

RE: Fire brahces pipes flow velocity

There is no velocity limits in NFPA 13 (fire sprinklers), 14 (standpipes) & 24 (underground).  These were removed several years ago.  I don't have access to the foam standards today, but I don't believe there are any velocity limitations in those systems either.

RE: Fire brahces pipes flow velocity

The velocity although not ideal is acceptable but is the head loss?

Maximum Fire Water pipes velocity

Does anyone can tell me the maximum allowed velocity in pipes for fire water pipe systems and branches?
