Will Glycol cause problems in my Boiler
Will Glycol cause problems in my Boiler
(OP)
I have a boiler that provides hot water to two jackets of my kettles. I also have a chiller feeding chilled water to the same two jackets of these kettles. I would like to add glycol to the system for freeze protection, but worried this might cause problems to my boiler.
Any thoughts or suggestions.

if the temp of glycol exceeds upper temp limits (depending upon mfg and concentration), then the glycol can convert into carbon, thus degrade the fluid in boiler. this temp is usually around 450°F. however, if circulation in boiler is not that good, film temps can easily exceed the 450°F temp limit if exposed directly to radiant heat from burner.
good luck!

If you turely only need say 300 F heat medium, then a pressureized glycol will work. As for food, usa propylene glycol like my local brewery uses.
