air static dP in the side frame of HE

air static dP in the side frame of HE

air static dP in the side frame of HE

(OP)
Hi,
I am working on air-cooled Heat Exchanger which has side plate with slots. When I use blower or sucker fan I would like to know how to calculate the static dP or the air flow that leakes through these slots.

Thanks ! !

RE: air static dP in the side frame of HE

KB001,

The static pressure through the slots you describe will be the same as the differential between that portion of the tube bundle and the ambient pressure.

The question is: Why would you want to have slots in the side channels in the first place?

The second question is:  How much air is leaking into (induced draft) or out of (forced draft) the tube bundle?

Regards,

These slots were required to band the core so that it will pass through the brazing operation. Welding doesn't seem to be very good way so, I am working on to plug-in those slots with some high temp rubber or plastic material.

How much air leaking was the one I was trying to find. I think it may not be too much. But the air static dP in those slots may be significantly smaller than the core. So, cfm of air through slots will be larger than expected.
Atlast, I used delta P = C (V/1097)^2*rho to find out delta P in inwg., where C is a loss coefficient & V vel. in ft/min.
Thanks Speco for your reply
