When reorganizing groups and users in the VaultAdmin program, the user who was the administrator is not the administrator anymore. I can't log into the Vaultadmin program since there isn't a user with that right. I've tried every other user to see if the right was passed on to them but that didn't work. I also tried reinstalling the Vaultadmin program and trying the 'pdmwadmin' user but that didn't work either. Any ideas?

RE: PDMVaultAdmin login

You have to have his access to get into his Vault Admin.

Have you tried to install the Vault Admin on your computer? If so and it still don't work, then you must get access to his machine and password to fix the fact you have limited rights to the vault.

I am the user that had the admin rights.

RE: PDMVaultAdmin login

When he was the admin did he give you admin rights? If not, then you are locked out of the vault. Until someone with Admin rights gives them to you. You just can't lose your rights over night. Someone had to change them.

It good practice to have at least 2 if not 3 people to have admin rights to the vault as well as the person that is running the server. Incase everyone gets locked out for some reason you will always have one available.

RE: PDMVaultAdmin login

Sean,
Your PDM manual has the password in it that was setup with PDM. Try that one, maybe no one removed it yet.
The only reason I still have it in use is because people here do not know about it and I am not going to tell them either.

Worst case scenario, take a copy of the pdmrc project and subprojects in your vaultdata. In there are files which control access for users, groups and admin (its fairly obvious which). Stop the vault and replace the files with copies from either an earlier backup copy when you knew the password, or if you don't have this, create a new vault somewhere (you can do this on any computer that does not already have a vault on it). You can then copy the files from the new vault to your existing vault and the admin password will be restored to pdmwadmin.Depending on how selective you are with the files decides how much recreating of names you have to do. If you manage to mess it up, you can always replaces the files that you copied right at the start. It can be done with the minimum of disruption if you are methodical.
Any questions, please ask.

Good luck

RE: PDMVaultAdmin login

Badwolf had a great idea. A star for Badwolf. Copy the Users.pdmw file from an old backup with a known password. I opened the file using notepad, could not read the passwords.

OK it looks like somehow every user was had lost the right of admin. We were able to get a copy of the pdmrc file from a backup last week and restore it as the current version. That works and I'm able to login again. Thank you everyone for your help.
