I didn't know about *pla*. Personally, I have always typed t:plane. Anyone know the difference and/or limitations of one over the other?
By the way, t: seems to work with just about anything. (plane, surface, line, dimension, etc...)

RE: Globally selecting xyz planes in V5?
I agree with Solid7; t:plane (or t=pla*) to multi-select by element Type. That's what the Help says. Although I tried Nev's method and it works too!
RE: Globally selecting xyz planes in V5?
I believe these to be carry overs from v4 days
.*po* for points
.*bod* for bodies
.*lin* lines
.*set* this was a guess but it works too for geometric bodies
etc....
RE: Globally selecting xyz planes in V5?
Is there something I need to do after entering in the input bar? It goes in but nothing happens...
There was a macro posted on here a while back that auto hide the planes..I have lost it on my last computer change over..
Cheers
I don't know anything but the people that do.

It's worth a .*star*
I'm trying to remember the Pre-V5 abbreviations, I think they were *pt, *ln, *crv, *sur, *pln, *axs and so on, or have I gone back to V1 !!
RE: Globally selecting xyz planes in V5?
Your V4 abbreviations are correct. In fact, I still find myself typing them...

I use the Edit -> Search command on assemblies. I think that you can use Power Input on Assemblies, but the syntax may be slightly different than in parts. Rather than learn, I just use the easiest method that came along...
Edit -> Search is your best friend when doing global hide/show, in my opinion.

In addition, save your search criteria in Favorites with a name and try to use then Power Input...
