ASME Material Recertification

ASME Material Recertification

ASME Material Recertification

(OP)
I have recently been approached by a salvage material supplier of ASME HRSG boiler equipment that was fabricated but  never installed (project cancelled after material delivery).

The entire boiler is laying in a yard in pieces. My firm is interested in buying some of this material and using in future projects. The related quality documentation is not available. Can this material be recertified for use via tensile testing, PMI and/or other process?

RE: ASME Material Recertification

If the material was NEVER used in service, yes, it can be re-certified in accordance with ASME Section I or VIII, Div 1 requirements.

RE: ASME Material Recertification

If the ASME Section I Boiler and Boiler External Pipe are welded fabrications, you had better get the supporting Code documentation.
