Brass Replacement

Brass Replacement

Brass Replacement

(OP)
Hello,

I'm currently working at replacing a supply brass of discs. They are supposed to burst between 2500 and 2775 psi, and are made of C22000 copper alloy, 90% copper, 10% zinc (so it's technically a brass, but is called a bronze in the industry). Each disc is about 0.5" in diameter. The problem is that I'm having trouble finding a supplier that will provide the thickness needed (.006") in the quantities desired (15 lbs or less).

Because of this issue, I'm now looking into other alloys that aren't too dissimilar in composition. What properties are most important when trying to predict material properties, besides yield strength and ult tensile strength? Hardness? Temper? Composition?

At what point when varying the amount of zinc and including additives (such as tin) do the alloy's properties significantly diverge from the original alloy?

RE: Brass Replacement

Take a look at Brass Shim Stocks. There are guite a few makers and several different alloys.

You may have to do a little culling to tie down the precision you need unless you can find someone that makes something to a higher precision that standard.
