whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

(OP)
when sketching sometimes ill run across a line that cant be modified.  happens usually when the line is obtained via convert entities command.  I know its probably something really simple and I run into this kinda thing every once in a while so i thought id ask this time.

thanks in advance.

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

Two words for you... POWER TRIM.

Look it up in the HELP MENU.

It will change your life.

I love power trim.  But not even power trim can mess with these lines.

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

Do you know the Ctrl-pick extension trick for lines to meet at a point...???

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

Then you got different lines than I have EVER gotten...

Try to first grab & drag the endpoint off, then see if you can do anything with it.

Dutch... can you expound on that trick a little?

Draw a vert and hor line that don't meet. CTRL pick and HOLD end of one line and drag cursor over other desired line. VOILA...if thats too vague lemme know.

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

You don't need to use the Ctrl key for that ... and you can Extend and Trim using either tool by dragging and dropping.

cheers

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

(OP)
no guys, the extend or trim simply dont do nothing to the line.  I know how to use the extend command......

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

WHen the convert entities command is used, you basically get three constraints, one to each end point and 1 on the profile.

Once you grab one of the converted end points and move it off its reference, you can then use the trim/extend command on it.

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

Chances are the lines are at different elevations, have you checked that yet?

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

(OP)
the line im trying to extend is in a regular sketch, not a 3d sketch. and i cant post the file sorry its kinda top secret.

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

Have you tried meintsis suggestion yet?

cheers

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

(OP)
Yeah, i went to the external references list and deleted all of them, still wont budge or extend or nothing.

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

External references?

You have an open sketch and have used the "convert entities" command to create a line in the sketch.    correct?

Can you then drag the converted endpoint?
What about using the "split entity" command on the line, delete a segment, and then extend the remaining segment?

Remember...

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

I just realized that when I answered the question from the OP, I thought I was in the autocad forum

Sorry

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

uGlay, you must have a converted entities spline.  Right?  No trim for you.

RE: whats up with lines that cant be trimmed or extended?

One other note:
If you ae using the "convert entities" command on multiple edges on once, common endpoints will be constrained to each other.

your going to have to use your feet."
