reload a part with same name

reload a part with same name

(OP)
Hi all,

I am working on an assembly with numerous parts, & for a part I want to reload it with a modified version, but same name, at a different file location. How can I do that? I tried to replace it but with no luck. Please advise.

Regards,

engmechs

RE: reload a part with same name

When finished updating, save over the old one. It's always a good idea to work with the original, not a copy ... or use PDM.

RE: reload a part with same name

ctophers method is the simplest. When the assembly is re-opened you may receive a message stating that the internal ID of the component does not match. If you do, just click OK to accept the new part.

If you want to use Replace while the assembly is active, you will have to change the name of the new component.

cheers

RE: reload a part with same name

engmechs,

Anoter method is to suppress the part in your assembly (as long as you only have a few inserted into it), open the new part up, then unsuppress the part in your assembly.  You may get the message CorBlimeyLimey mentions but follow the same advice.  I would also now delete the old part if it no longer needed (especially if the part is in the same folder as the assembly as the next time you open the assembly up, it will find the old part [unless you have search paths set up]).

Thanks guys for your advices,

My problem is that the parts are dimmed out (suppressed state), & I tried to unsuppress the part (the dimmed part)by using the resolve method, there is no response! Is this the normal ?

RE: reload a part with same name

Try to unsuppress it when you have the part open in its own window. Generally, when a part is suppressed and won't unsuppress it's because SW can't find it. By having it open in its own window, SW will recognize it and open it in the assembly.

RE: reload a part with same name

This will work too .....

With the assembly closed, delete (or move/rename) the original part file.

Then when you open the assembly, SW will prompt you that the file cannot be found and will allow you to browse to the new file location.
