In-place mate relationship

In-place mate relationship

In-place mate relationship

(OP)
hello,
I'm looking to add an In-place mate to a cable which I need to stretch like an elastic to conform to the various stages the objects will be in,  The cable wraps around 2 - cylinders, one at each end, the cylinders distance btw each other varies,  but the cable connecting the two cylinders does not follow the path of the change.  Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

RE: In-place mate relationship

I'm betting you'll have top post an image, before you get any useful feedback. You're qhestion is a bit too vague for just text.

RE: In-place mate relationship

Have you modelled the cable in-context or as a non-referenced model and then inserted into the assy?

In the assy, if you use a Layout Sketch to create the cable, and also to mate the cylinders, the cable should update when the cylinders are moved.

cheers

...and I'm assuming you didn't use the Routing add-in.  If you don't have access to Routing, then do as CBL suggests.

I modeled the cable in-context, what I have is a crane assembly, the cable attaches the boom straps to the gantry on the body of the crane.  I have a set of 6 sheaves at each location, what I did was create 2 sketches, a circular profile (to be the cable) and a path the cable must follow, I then swept the cable profile around the path to create the cable.  This method does not work, I'll try it again, thanks guys for your posts.
