Measuring pipeline construction productivity

Measuring pipeline construction productivity

Measuring pipeline construction productivity

Hi all

Does anybody know any good references on measuring the progress of pipeline construction e.g measuring right of way , construction road , stringing etc

Best regards

Nothing takes the place of experience, but that being said, John S. Page put out some very good reference books on cross country pipeline productivity factors.

They are pretty darn good, but again, site conditions are so site-specific, these factors will give you an idea if you are doing a conceptual or feasibility study, but based on my experience I would not use them for a detailed Class III type owvners estimate.

Also, there are many other factors that will affect productivity and those need to be taken into account.

Used to be you could ask a pipeline contractor to put one together for you if you could gurantee he would be on the bid list.  The problem you will face now is that contractors are so busy now, it's impossible to get a "free" estimate these days.

I just remembered, if you go to my website, there is a link to a document called "Construction Execution Plan Development Guidelines" (it's on the 2nd web page under publications), in one of the attachments to the PDF document there is some information on pipeline productivity factors that was taken from Page.

If you can't get hold of a Page book, that might help.

I assume you mean for progress payments.

And assuming that you mean a pipeline and not some short 1, 5 or 10 km job, there really only two that matter,

1.) linear feet welded.
2.) linear feet buried.

Otherwise see the little diagram below.

Ooopps, may have missed the subtle difference between measuring and estimating productivity...........
