How to get rid of small surface edges

How to get rid of small surface edges

How to get rid of small surface edges

(OP)
Hello,

For meshing, i make midplane surface model out of my 3d model. During the process, i get very small surfaces, which i join with other surfaces. But join operation does not remove my small surface edges. So, in meshing i need to have very small elements to have better quality in these small surfaces. i would like to avoid this by removing the edges.Basically, i want to have one big surface without any in between edges.  How to do it?

Thank you.

So you have gaps between the surfaces, could happen if you try to offset surfaces that aren't tangent or if you are missing surfaces. Try playing with the merging distance in the join feature.

If I'm not mistaken, what he's looking for is a 1 piece surface. (no segmentation)

If that's what you are after, I usually re-create them by intersecting the joined surface with curves, using points to make them single piece sections, and running a new surface through the resultant curves.

Is that what you mean?

RE: How to get rid of small surface edges

if you use CATIA advance meshing tools, you can  define an angle between edge or surface (in your case) in order to 'detect' or 'avoid' them.

Check the online doc for more info.

Azrael,

i have no problem with joining. perfectly, works. After making one surface also, i could not avoid that edjes which i had earlier. During meshing, along these edges elements are created which is small and want to avoid.

Solid 7,

My problem: join operation, joins the surface. but does not remove the inbetween edge.

Itsmyjob,

I dont know catia meshing. Do u have any idea abt  export options to abaqus. Do i need any extra translator.

Hope i am clear now.

Thanks,

fembig

Then I stand on my previous reply...

Abaqus is part of catia...

may be you can trade you stand alone Abaqus for a AFC (Abaqus For Catia)
