RAM utilization - Attention CorBlimeylimey

RAM utilization - Attention CorBlimeylimey

(OP)
I wanted to get off the Benchmark thread so I am starting this one. My apologies if this is the wrong forum but I wanted to follow up with Corblimeylimey on this topic. Maybe some others would like to add an answer or receive some help from this topic.
Why does only a portion of the installed RAM show up during the Benchmark testing?
CorB...To answer your last post in the Benchmark thread, I had to replace the motherboard on this unit soon after I receiving it. So, yes I have looked and there are four (1) gig "sticks" of RAM installed. Your question confuses me a bit. If there is more RAM I am ignorant of it.

Another question I have is why 1 gig of RAM shows up as 8192?

RE: RAM utilization - Attention CorBlimeylimey

I asked if you knew for sure that you had only (just) 4GB because that mobo is capable of having 32GB of RAM installed (4 x 8192 = 32GB) ... just a passing thought. I probably should have let it continue on its way. tongue

cheers

Wish I could utilize it.
It's what you call future protection in the extreme. If and when Vista and Solidworks get there act together on 64 bit I might fill out a few more slots.
I also was thinking about FEA and some CFD on this machine.
This unit also makes a great space heater! WINK

I think the reason that your 1 gig of RAM is showing up as 8192 MB is that Belarc Advisor is reporting the size in bits, where there are 8 bits to the byte.

EEnd ... Good thought, but my system (and other systems I look after) reports correctly in MB not Mb.

RE: RAM utilization - Attention CorBlimeylimey

Do you have a /Maxmem="somevalue" command in your boot.ini file. That will limit the amount of memory that windows sees. That switch should be removed unless IT guy has a reason for it.
