Customizing Number Format of Notes

Customizing Number Format of Notes

Customizing Number Format of Notes

(OP)
Is there a way to create custom numbering formats in notes?  What I am trying to do is use numbering in a note, but I'd like for the numbers to be centered aligned horizontally as opposed to left justified.  Is there a way to get this that through SW or is there a way to create this custom format?

Thanks,
Mike

Try creating your notes in WORD... then COPY/PASTE to your drawing.

Thanks, I had already tried that by using numbering and setting the number alignment to "center" which is what I assume you mean.  I will try again, but it didnt work the first time.  When I pasted it in SW as text, the center alignment goes is forced to left.  BUT, I just tried it again and pasted as an embedment, and of course holds format, but I dont know if it is good that way.  I will have to play with.  One thing I do is (this is for dwgs) make the note in SW using numbering for format ease and then I superimpose empty triangles over the numbers that become flag notes and then group all and have one nice, movable note entity.  But doesnt appear I can group the embedment and triangle.  I will have to play with it.  On another note, do you use flag notes and if so, do you have another way that sounds better, maybe even something SW has in place that I just dont know about?

thanks for the help
Mike

With your preferred method... I think you'll have to use 2 digits for all the numbers... 01, 02, 03, etc. That will "justify" everything & you still use the same size triangle.

yeah, that would take care of the justification.  Misht be a hard sell here, but I see what you are saying.  You know of any other ways?  I really dont like doing each note by itself or notes with seperate number notes added and manually aligned to the note body.  The way I do it makes for very quickly created and aligned notes except for, as you mention, the dbl digits and what that does to the triangle size or alignment depending on the route.  I guess the triangles could just be bigger and then be oversized to the single digit notes, but the size is really good for our dwgs as it is and fits in well with the nubmered formatted text, i.e . the triangles dont overlap with single line, consecutive flag notes

thanks again,
mike

RE: Customizing Number Format of Notes

I think you can get it done with EXCEL... How skilled are you?

Copy/Paste a few typical notes into your reply & I'll post an EXCEL (2003) file for you to download & try.

Also... I'm assuming it's a triangle you need. Let me know if it's something else.

Ah, an Excel challenge ... pretty good on this end !!! But I'll let you fire away at it.  Here are some notes for you:

1 INSTALL CARD(S) INTO LOCATION(S) SHOWN.  CARD CONFIGURATION IS FACTORY DEFAULT.  NO CARD CONFIGURATION IS REQUIRED.

2 SEE FIGURE 1 FOR CABLE INSTALLATION (F/N 7)

3 SEE FIGURE 2 FOR CARD CONFIGURATION

Sorry, got a chance to fly in one of our simulators ... what you did looks like something to play with.  Definitely an option.

Thanks a lot,
Have a nice weekend

You can use API to assembly your notes and then insert them into an already existing annotation note that is set up with the justification you desire.

only problem with all that guys, is it's cumbersome.  I used to use an OLE word file for our notes, but for what it does with numbering and formatting, is downsided by the inherent problems with OLE images.  Sizing, size limitations, translation to other data formats.  Hit them up with enhancement requests like I have.  Using flags on drawings is very common, and they should look into that functionality so we down have to jump through hoops to get what we want.  If translation doesn't matter, word is the way to go, just know it's limits.

Yeah, thanks all.  I am kind of on same page with convenience, I like things to be as easy as possible; came across the same concerns with the Word OLE.  I havent gotten into API too much yet, but I'll have to.  Thanks everyone, all good stuff.

RE: Customizing Number Format of Notes

Pardon my ignorance, but why don't you just insert a flag symbol into your notes?  Click the "Insert Symbol" button and choose the "Flag Tri 1-99" library.  Then pick the number you want.  It will insert a symbol into the note.  Or you can just type "<T#-33> and it will turn into a triangle around the number 33.

Thanks for the input Handleman.  I didnt know about those type of codes.  The way I do it though I dont see how it would work.  Correct me if Im wrong, but I like to use the Numbering format (as in bullets and nubmering) because it gives me automatic indentaion from note # to note text and I can just type right through the notes without messing with alignments and stuff.  Am I missing something with SW capability with numbering format?  Or is ther a way to add the symbol to the numberer format number?

Thanks

Ah, I missed the point of what you were trying to do.  My bad!
