Medical Screening

Medical Screening

(OP)
I am working on a development site that is situated on an old brick works/coal mine site that has quite a lot of contamination on site.
Medical Screening was given to all employees at the start of the Contract, to check lungs and skin and also bio. test to check for any contamination into the blood stream.
My question really is has anyone else been involved inthis type of work and if so how often would you expect medical screening to be carried out through the contract or would it normally just be left till the end (contract duration is 50weeks).

Regards,
kpa2uk

RE: Medical Screening

I worked in an active coal mine for a couple years and MSHA and OSHA mostly controlled this with all their regulations.

If not controlled with federal regulations, then it depends upon your aversion to risk.  Also depends upon the nature of the contamination and nature of the work. Different workers may also require different testing protocol.  For instance, if working in the field trailer only, limited testing if any.  If operating a backhoe, probably more exposure to the contaminants. You should probably have a comprehensive health and safety plan in place before starting the job.
