24 volt ethernet hub

24 volt ethernet hub

(OP)
Hello all,

I am installing a Controllogix device and using a Red Lion display for the HMI.  I figured out how to get the ethernet working between the two.  I am looking for a ethernet hub that operates off of 24 volts and haven't found anything on the net.

Any suggestions are welcome.

RE: 24 volt ethernet hub

Try this link, these guys are an AB Encompass partner,

http://www.n-tron.com/

Or you can try B&B Electronics, they also make a very good industrial ENet hub and switch.

Thanks for the quick reply!

RE: 24 volt ethernet hub

B&B Electronics caters to the industry, with 24VDC powered switches, with integrated DIN rail mounts. They have models that are more rubust and will withstand being in a Hoffman enclosure outside.

Take a look at www.bb-elec.com

RE: 24 volt ethernet hub

Add Hirschmann to the list.  I have had good results with their products.

I would also suggest using a switch rather than a hub.

RE: 24 volt ethernet hub

I've used 24 vdc industrial grade Phoenix Contact switches in the past and have been satisfied with them.

RE: 24 volt ethernet hub

To all,

What we need is an industrial grade/ruggedized switch with management capabilities, and that can handle trunking VLANs.

Cisco makes the 2955 series switch, which is a 12 port fully manageable, Din rail mounted unit. It is their “industrial” offering. It works well, we have several in operation, but it is bulky, and only runs off 24VDC. Many other industrial switches have the standard 10-30 VDC range on the input power.

Does anyone know of a good managed switch for the industrial arena?

They have the best Industrial managed switches available.

RE: 24 volt ethernet hub

remember, always use a switch, hubs cause problems, I believe AB does not recommend using hubs anymore for any reason.

RE: 24 volt ethernet hub

robertjo,

Take a look at Westermo's R200 and U200 switches on my previous link. I believe both have VLAN capability.
