2004 & 2006 CEPCI composite and sub-indexes

2004 & 2006 CEPCI composite and sub-indexes

2004 & 2006 CEPCI composite and sub-indexes

(OP)
I have the 2004 composite index and the 2006 Aug composite and sub-indexes, but I need the sub-indexes from 2004 as well as the most recent final composite and sub-indexes, whether that is 2006 yr end or a few months into 2007.

Can anyone help?
I have downloaded CEIRev3.xls from curryhydrocarbons.ca, thanks owg!

I am also interested in the current weighting of the components? I have:
Equip. - 61%
Const. Labor - 22%
Buildings - 7%
Engineering - 10%

I believe these were updated sometime around 2002.

Thanks for any help.

RE: 2004 & 2006 CEPCI composite and sub-indexes

I have the sub indices from Dec 2004 final at hand. I will check on the rest next week.

CEPCI Dec '04 Final
CE Index 464.4
Heat exchangers and tanks 516.8
Process machinery 513.2
Pipe valves and fittings 608.9
Process instruments 379.9
Pumps and compressors 727.2
Electrical equipment 360.8
Structural support and misc. 584.6
Construction labor 305.2
Buildings 438.6
Engineering and supervision 344.9

RE: 2004 & 2006 CEPCI composite and sub-indexes

The most recent information that I have is for January 2006 (preliminary), from the April 2006 issue of Chemical Engineering.

CE Index,  478.7
   Equipment,  558.9
      Heat exchnagers and tanks,  523.9
      Process machinery,  533.5
      Pipes, valves & fittings,  655.9
      Process instruments,  388.5
      Pumps & compressors,  766.2
      Electrical equipment,  385.3
      Structural supports & misc,  598.4
   Construction labour,  304.5
   Buildings,  459.8
   Engineering & supervision,  346.6

RE: 2004 & 2006 CEPCI composite and sub-indexes

The is the breakdown from Vatavuk WM, 'Updating the CE Plant Cost Index', Chemical Engineering, pp 62-70, January, 2000.

CE Index,  1.0
   Equipment,  0.50675 of CE Index
Heat exchangers and tanks,  0.338 of Equipment
      Process machinery,  0.128 of Equipment
Pipes, valves & fittings,  0.190 of Equipment
      Process instruments,  0.105 of Equipment
Pumps & compressors,  0.064 of Equipment
      Electrical equipment,  0.070 of Equipment
Structural supports & misc,  0.105 of Equipment

Thank you both, this has been very helpful.

RE: 2004 & 2006 CEPCI composite and sub-indexes

Actually, I still need the most recent information as of today, 2007 preliminary or otherwise. Thanks!

RE: 2004 & 2006 CEPCI composite and sub-indexes

Still have a couple of questions:

owg - The spreadsheet CEIRev3.xls lists the 2004 index as 444.2, while in your post above, the Dec '04 final is 464.4. Is there a difference in the Dec final versus the 2004 final composite?

dbuzz - The breakdown you gave me was exactly what I was looking for except that I applied it to owg's Dec '04 values or your Jan '06 values, it doesn't fit. Any ideas or am I missing something?

Thanks again for all your help.

RE: 2004 & 2006 CEPCI composite and sub-indexes

The Annual CE index for 2004 was 444.2.  The Dec-04 CE Index of 464.4 was for value for that particular month.

Great observation regarding the discrepency in the breakdown; perhaps there's been another update since 2000.  I'll see what I can find.

RE: 2004 & 2006 CEPCI composite and sub-indexes

LRGCHE - I think that the June value for any year is a better estimate of the value for the whole year than is the Dec value. For example for 2004, June final 442.6, Nov final 462.5 (don't have Dec at hand), 2004 final 444.2.

Thanks owg.
What I am really looking for is the sub-indices and composite for the year 2004 and then the most recent set to date, 2007.

I have a project that was initially scoped out in 2004 by someone else and the forecast estimate established. So I am trying to bring those capital dollars in 2004 up to date with today's dollars.

RE: 2004 & 2006 CEPCI composite and sub-indexes

LRGCHE - I have updated CEIRev3.xls on curryhydrocarbons.ca. This will give you the latest breakdown from the April 2007 issue. I have looked in a few issues and I don't think they publish the annual breakdown. Your best bet for an estimate of the 2004 breakdown may be the June 2004 breakdown. Here it is.

CE Index,  442.6
   Equipment,  505.8
      Heat exchangers and tanks,  460.0
      Process machinery,  490.4
      Pipes, valves & fittings,  600.7
      Process instruments,  377.9
      Pumps & compressors,  714.9
      Electrical equipment,  351.8
      Structural supports & misc,  531.6
   Construction labour,  306.1
   Buildings,  431.5
   Engineering & supervision,  345.6

The last update article I have is from CE Jan 2002. In that article the author states "Each annual index is the arithmetic mean of the monthly indexes."
