How do I use the deform function?

How do I use the deform function?

How do I use the deform function?

Hi, I hope you can help!!

I'm having real difficulty using the deform function in solidworks?  I think thats the function I need.  I'm trying to create cutting teeth (similar to a cheese grater) on a sphere.  How do I use my own tool to deform something?

I had a look at the help, but whenever I try to put it onto the sperical surface it doesn't seem to deform where I place it.

You may also want to check out the forming tool feature.  These features have confusing interfaces for me, too.  So I check out the Help files very carefully and try lots of variations of the options to see if I can get what I want.  I'd guess the forming tool feature would work best if I understand your desired geometry.

Cheers, Theophius, will give it a try.

RE: How do I use the deform function?

Your part is a sphere so I assume it is not a Sheet Metal part. Forming Tools will only work on Sheet Metal parts.

Can you post images of what you are trying to achieve?

If you have the "cheese grater tooth" as a separate model, you may be able to use it as a tool for the Indent function  ... or with the Combine function.

cheers

RE: How do I use the deform function?

Indent!  That's what I was thinking of when I said the forming tool--thanks for the correction, CorBlimeyLimey.  Indent is much more likely to deliver what you need in this part.

Cheers guys, will try again today.

I'm not sure if I should put up a picture but I'm basically trying to put cutting teeth on a hemisphere where the cutting teeth are on the inside.  Not sure if that makes it a bit clearer.
