Asphalt durability in seawater

Asphalt durability in seawater

I've been asked about topping a seaside boat ramp in AC.  There are several aspects that concern me (eg friction and installation) but I'm also not sure about durability with seawater wetting/drying cycles.  I vaguely recall a couple of tidal causeways in France that may be AC.  Could somebody point me towards any research results on AC durability when cyclically exposed to seawater and UV?

RE: Asphalt durability in seawater

DaveMinter - On the South Carolina coast many tidal region boat ramps are surfaced or totally constructed from asphalt - and last for decades. There is no problem with sea water. Here is a fact sheet from the Alabama Asphalt Pavement Association, see the very last paragraph

Just for interest's sake, while on holidays in France I noted that the carparks at Mont St Michel are all below high tide level.  A little care when visiting may be worthwhile!
