Hyper-Threading

Does anyone know if hyper-threading is a benifit to have running when using catia? Any pros and cons would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
forfun

RE: Hyper-Threading

Well, unless it's changed since the last time the question was asked, the simple answer is no.  Not entirely true, as DMU and FEA (and I think some of the machining products) are supposed to be supported for dual proc/core, but other than that, just plain no...

I see no advantage when running R17. (even 64 bit)  There is no mirrored useage in my task manager.  So unless there's some variable or option that I haven't discovered, we're still waiting.

Great for multi-session, though.  I can run 3 heavy sessions with no problem at all on AMD dual processor hardware.

Our machines currently have the hyper-threading enabled, will this slow down our catia session? When catia is not responding the cpu is at 50%

RE: Hyper-Threading

Are you running dual core or dual proc?  If so, is one or both of them running at 50%?

I really don't know if hyper-threading will slow you down, but I'm pretty certain that it isn't helping you.  In my humble opinion, if it isn't helping, then...

RE: Hyper-Threading

It's probably better being left on (if using winXP or newer).  What operating system are you using?

It may not be a benefit directly to CATIA, but if you are regularly waiting on CATIA to process operations, hyper-threading should increase the responsiveness of the computer so you can do other things while you wait (or another session of CATIA).  You can always run your own tests (as hyper-threading is usually a simple option in BIOS to turn on/off) and see exactly how much it is helping you or not.

OS is winXP 64bit running a dual core
