Design Table Question

Design Table Question

Design Table Question

(OP)
Hi,
This seems to be a stupid question, but have to ask. Actually, I might answer it myself at the end of this thread, but would like to have some feedback.

If I have a release piece of hardware (i.e. screw) with many configurations, will I break any links to assemblies it's used on if I rename the "descriptions" fields? I think not. I can see if I renamed the configurations itself, but not the descriptions. I'm assuming next time I open the assembly it will display the new renamed description I modified. Some of the users here would like to see the size in the description field.

Oh, this is not a toolbox part. These are parts I created with on company part number as the configuration, and using through the design library. Drag and Drop method.

Best,

RE: Design Table Question

You can rename the Description without affecting any references.

However, if you have called up those descriptions into a drawing or BOM, obviously you will have to update those.

cheers

That's what I thought, but had to check.

RE: Design Table Question

Are you renaming the description field or changing the values in the description field?

RE: Design Table Question

From reading this... I think you want add data to the "value" of the CUSTOPM PROPERTY named DESCRIPTION.

This you can do... But if you change the name of the DESCRIPTION property... all your BOM's will come up with a blank column.

This was just to clarify your last post.

TateJ,
I went to the DT and changed of the descriptions to the configurations to there applicable description sizes as mention early in this thread.

How come when I create a BOM (Fig 2) from an assembly using this part, the part description (Fig 1) only shows up for that configuration? Why not the configuration description from the DT?

(Fig 1)

(Fig 2)

Do I have to go to properties and add this under the configuration specific tab?

RE: Design Table Question

Your DESIGN TABLE header for the description column should be $PRP@DESCRIPTION.

From the HELP menu... keyword search: "design tables, custom properties"

Quote:

The column header in a design table to specify a custom property uses this syntax:

$PRP@property
