Hipot

Hipot

(OP)
Could you help me to choose Hipot tester for testing 15kv cables after installation on sites. What factors should be considered according to US standards? Is tester up to 20kV dc output ok?  Which  brands you can advise?
Thanks a lot!

RE: Hipot

NETA specifies 64kV for DC hipot Acceptance testing for 15kV cable.
Hipotronics makes the most commonly-used tester for this application, which has an 80kV range.

RE: Hipot

Careful DanDel, that depends on the insulation level, it is only 56kV for 100% insulation.

DC hipot is considered a destructive test, it is still allowed by most standards as an acceptance test but not for service aged cables. If you are going to buy a hipot set buy a VLF test set, taht way you can use it for maintenance testing and you can add the tan delta module in the future if you want to to some condition assement testing.
