Solidworks Material Properties

Solidworks Material Properties

Solidworks Material Properties

(OP)
Hello,

What are the default SW properties for Materials in SW. Or where can you find a list?

Also, can you add a new property field for the materials. For example, a commment field specificying where you got the material properties, for reference. For example, you may get some properties from MatWeb and other properties may come from the part supplier.

Thanks,

-Robert

RE: Solidworks Material Properties

I created a material database (on my site) and the info mostly comes from the Engineers Material Handbook. But, I don't list that's where it comes from.

RE: Solidworks Material Properties

Speaking of the database Chris.............did you ever add the other requested materials to it?

Also, I sent an email to you yesterday. Did you get a chance to look at it?

Chris,

We have multiple people adding materials to a SW materials DB. Over time, it will be difficult to know the source fo the material properties. The properties could come from a variety of sources depending on the material(specific or general). After a material is entered, there may come a day when someone questions the value for a property. With no reference, there is no information to back up the claim that the property value is correct.

I heard that you could possible add a "Comment" field by editing SW material xml schema definition file(sldmaterials.xsd). Anyone have experience w/this?

Thanks,

-Robert

RE: Solidworks Material Properties

Colin, sorry, I have not had the chance yet. I've been very busy and traveling.
I have not forgot about it.
I responded to your email this morning.

Robert,
I have not looked into adding comments.
I had an experience mechainal engineer and 3 major aerospace firms check my database. IMO, when someone creates a material, anyone can say they got the info from a reliable source. My suggestion is to have a reliable engineer check the work.
