i am looking for the chemical equation for water softeners. it doesnt need to be balances. thank you.

RE: water softeners

Sodium zeolite water softener?  Try searching the web

In cursory review, where z = ion exchange site on the ion exchange resin, we have:

Softening:
CaCO3 + 2 NaZ <==> Na2CO3 + CaZ

Regeneration:
NaCl + 1/2 CaZ <==> 1/2 CaCl2 + NaZ
High concentrations of salt are used to force the equilibrium to the right ...

RE: water softeners

Any idea why my Kenmore softener suddenly won't go into suction mode?

RE: water softeners

Perhaps consult your manual.
What makes it go into suction mode?  Start there... control problem (no power, turned off, etc?), mechanical problem (no water pressure, etc).

RE: water softeners

been through it all and all seems fine.  Replaced motor recently.  Doesn't appear to have any internal wear in the head.  Venturi assembly and all seem fine aswell.  Cycles correctly and drains fine.  Just after the fill cycle, it briefly creates a suction and thats it, probably a spoonful.  This hard water stuff is getting old too!

My only thought is a small leak in the line or fitting that allows the filling to occur but isn't allowing enough suction for water, but I don't hear a leak.
