"Simplifying" elements in Workbench

"Simplifying" elements in Workbench

(OP)
Hi,
in a thread of some time ago, we were trying to "simplify" or "change" element types in Workbench in order to reduce model occupancy in memory.
The concept is good, but my own suggestion about how to do it was unappliable:
- SOLID186, and its parabolic counterpart SOLID187, are already tetrahedra, so there is no point in trying to "reduce" them. If the whole model is meshed only with a combination of those two, the memory occupancy can not be reduced except by lowering the number of elems in the mesh.
- TCHG can operate the "reduction" ONLY from 20-node degenerated tetrahedra (in other words, coming from 20-node hexahedra) to 10-nodes tetrahedra. This situation could occur when you generate an "hex-DOMINANT" mesh, but I strongly suspect that WB already shifts to SOLID18x any time it needs
- EMODIF of course works perfectly with the due cautions, but as already said it's no use changing from SOLID18x since they already have the minimum number of DOFs for their application, and in addition they have the most advanced formulation for the structural-h-tetra in ANSYS.

Sorry for the previous miswriting, I hope that this post will allow me being pardoned by those whom I once confused... winky smile

Regards
