interfacing with slc 500

interfacing with slc 500

interfacing with slc 500

(OP)
I have an slc5/03 that i am trying to view online using rs logix 500 and an allenbradley pic. i have connected directly to the rj45 dh+ port on the front and in the who active screen can see the processor concerned. however when i try to go online to it an error comes up saying that it is not an slc500?
Taking the processor out indicates that it is an slc 500 as does the indication on the who active screen. why cant i view this program on line. i dont have the image file but only want to quickly view the program
this was bought as part of a whole machine from part of the manuafacturers. is there anything they can do to prevent me from interfacing with the machine

RE: interfacing with slc 500

are you using this RSLinx driver?
1784-KT/KTX(D)/PKTX(D).....DH-485. devices

Is your dh+ address for your laptop same as your processor?
do you have the correct config for the dh+ card
device type?  I usually use a PCMK card??
network?   DH+
station name?  RSLinx
station number? <<<<<< check this, diff than your processor
dh+ speed  <<<<<< is this correct?

Other thing to look at is the RSLinx CPR release the same as your RSLogix500 CPR release.  Look at the about under help on both.   Usually the CPR would be the same level.

RE: interfacing with slc 500

What version of rslogix are you using?
If lower than 7.2 then upgrade and try again

RE: interfacing with slc 500

sorry i should of mentioned i am fairly sure that the drivers in the laptop are working correctly because i have used the pic with this laptop to interface with another slc 5/03 in a similar way. i think things are communicating because i can see the processor on the who active screen i just cant upload the program or view the ladder

RE: interfacing with slc 500

It's a SLC5/03 and I'm guessing your using Channel 1 which is a DH-485 port, not a DH+ port.  Is this correct?

If so...
Are you using a 1747-PIC or a 1747-UIC?
Do you have a eal serial port or a USB to serial adapter?
Is something connected to Channel 0 to keep you from connecting directly through it?

RE: interfacing with slc 500

what is the exact error you are getting?

Problem:  When using versions prior to 7.10, corrupted processor error

Cause:  Firmware 10 controllers used.

Cure:  Upgrade to RSLogix 500 ver 7.10

Is it this or somethin else?

i just want to view the program
i am getting a message saying target device is not an slc
i can see it in the who active screen and it is communicating because the run, program indication changes as i move the switch i just cant get online to view program i have had to pull the panel view connection out to connect to the processor

RE: interfacing with slc 500

Is your slc connected to a modem or another comms device? Some older comms devices send out there data on a different baud rate and or a half duplex config.

RE: interfacing with slc 500

(OP)
no there is usually a hmi in the connection i am trying to connect through

RE: interfacing with slc 500

How come you can not use the df1 channel 0 on the front of the slc instead of dh485?  Just use the DF1 driver under rslinx.

Also if the program in the plc is of a version that is higher than your RSlogix500 on your laptop it will not recognize it.  maybe thats the problem

RE: interfacing with slc 500

(OP)
is it just a standard serial cable to interface with the slc channel 0 pin layout  2-3,3-2,5-5?
can i upgrade my rs logix for free?

RE: interfacing with slc 500

I think there is still some confusion on what port you are trying to connect with.  Does it look like a RJ45 connector(Channel 1) or a 9 pin sub D(channel 0)?

If it is channel 1 are you using a 1747-PIC or a 1747-UIC?

Do you have a real serial port or a USB to serial adapter?

Also if you do an RsWho in RsLinx, does the processor show up correctly without a red X?  Look to the right part of the text identifying the processor.  Is it a number?  I don't have an SLC to verify this with but when viewing the online name of a Micrologix I see "...1763-L16BWA A/3.00".  This is the firmware of the processor.  What does yours say?

Here is the latest version of RsLinx Lite if it is showing an unrecognized device in RsLinx

i am using a pic connected to channel 1 although am willing to try a serial cable to channel 0 if it will work. i am using a real serial port off the motherboad not a usb type. i can see the processor in linx and it has no cross and for all i can see i should be able to upload.

what is the pin out for the serial cable i need can i connect it straight to the laptop, i thinkl i know how to configure the software if so.  i will lokk at the firmware when i can get back on the processor
thanks

RE: interfacing with slc 500

there are many threads on rs232 interface.  but here it is again

1 make sure their are no other programs using the serial port on laptop
2  pin 2 and pin 3 on your db9 cable is rs232.  if you have problems with step 3 below swap pin 2 and 3 by a null modem or swap the pin by other means.
3  select the correct com port for your laptop.  use the DF1 driver under rslinx, set it up for Slc-... processor, push the auto config button.  if it does not work, swap pin 2 and 3 on db9 and try again.  once you have succeeded and you will you should see your laptop and the processor displayed under the df1 rswho directory

RE: interfacing with slc 500

It should be noted also that if that processor was touched by a pc that was using rslogix 500 version 7.1 or higher then no other earlier version will go online with it.  You will have to either upgrade your software or if you are certain you have the correct offline file you can default the processor and download with whatever version you are using.

RE: interfacing with slc 500

How about that firmware number is RsLinx to the right of the processor, or does the the SLC show this?

I think jde777 has you answer.
