Mirror broken ??

Mirror broken ??

Mirror broken ??

(OP)
On the Top Plane make a sketch 5" x 5", "center" it on the origin Point, then extrude it vertically (top of the table).

On the front plane of just created extrusion insert a sketch and on the bottom edge of the extrusion put two points, say 1" and 1.5" to the right from the Origin.

Create a Plane that is offset 3" from the Right plane.

On that plane create a rectangular sketch, say 2" x 2" placed so that the top of the sketch would coincide with the bottom of the previous extrusion (that would be a leg of the table). Extrude the sketch by using 1.5" point as a vertex in the FROM dialog box and 1" point as a Vertex (Up to Vertex) in the DIRECTION 1 dialog box (merge result).

So far so good - you have one table (2 x 2 square x 0.5 thick) leg under the table.

Now use Right Plane for Mirror and mirror the leg. The preview is displayed correcly but after O.K. the mirrored part lands on the original leg "to the right" as if the right face of the leg was the mirror's plane.

Am I doing something wrong here ?

RE: Mirror broken ??

OK, firstly to answer your question, I don't know why it is reacting the way it does.

To fix the problem, use the Geometry Pattern option.

An aside ... I'm sure you must have a reason for creating the part this way ... but it is strange. Can you explain?

cheers

Well, it was really a 2D to 3D conversion from AutoCAD dwg and I was using that SW 2D to 3D Toolbar to "fold up" the views ... The Vertexes (the location and thicknes) were on the Front view and the shape of the leg on the Right "folded" View.

Wow, it works. Thank you.

RE: Mirror broken ??

I believe the GP option must be recreating the sketch points in the mirror so that it extrudes correctly. Without the GP option it must be somehow using the original points. ????

cheers
