CUTTING IN A HEX HEAD

CUTTING IN A HEX HEAD

(OP)
What is the easiest way to machine a hex for a 3/16" allen wrench on the head of a stainless steel insert 0.600" long. Precision machining of the rest of the insert is involved so no hammer shots please.

Drill + rotary broach.

Thank you for the information. It was very helpful. I will be more informed when seeking quotes. Thanks!

RE: CUTTING IN A HEX HEAD

Machining the hex head in medical stainless steel bone screws is often done with rotary broaching. See some folks who do it at the bottom of the page at: http://www.rotarybroaching.com
