Cant see hidden line circle (tapped hole) in drawing

Cant see hidden line circle (tapped hole) in drawing

Cant see hidden line circle (tapped hole) in drawing

(OP)
I have a simple assembly made up of two components.
A simple extruded rectangle (a WEDM block), and another smaller component with a tapped hole in it, (this is the insert to WEDM out of the block). In my assembly I inserted the smaller component into the bigger one and mated the top surfaces flush. In my assembly TV I can see both components including the top of the tapped hole with the hidden circle geometry.
Here is my problem, In my drawing I inserted the assembly and the hidden circle of the tapped hole does not show. There must be a setting to control this, but I can not find it. Oh, this used to work just fine, but all of a sudden it does not. If I insert the small component directly into my drawing I can see the tapped hole just fine.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

RE: Cant see hidden line circle (tapped hole) in drawing

Do you have separate drawing templates for parts and assemblys?

Tools > Options > Document Properties > Annotations Display and select Display Annotations.

Tools > Options > Document Properties > Detailing and select Cosmetic thread display > High Quality.

In the Drawing View Manager make sure that Annotations is set to Display Annotations.

cheers

CBL, I do not have seperate drawing templates for parts and assemblies.

My options settings are just the way you suggest.

Just to clarify my problem, I am inserting a 1" thick small block with tapped hole into a 1" thick larger block and mating the top surfaces coincident in my assembly. Then in the top view of the assembly model you can see the top of both blocks including the solid circle and the hidden circle representing the tapped hole. But not in the drawing !!! the tapped hole shows only the solid circle as if it was just a drilled hole, the hidden circle is not visible.
If I insert the block with the tapped hole into my drawing without the assembly I can see the top of the tapped hole clearly.

Just for the heck of it I change the coincident mate to a distance mate and raised the small block up a bit so the top surfaces are not paralell. This way the tapped hole was not covered in any way by the outer block. In my drawing of the assembly, the TV of the tapped hole still just shows a circle.

To force it to show, you can go to the Hole Thread? feature in the View Manager, RMB and select Show/b].

cheers

Please explain this ??
In my drawing if I drill down to the hole thread feature of the component with the tapped hole, there is no "show" option with RMB

RE: Cant see hidden line circle (tapped hole) in drawing

tmalinski,

The hidden hole representing the threads doesn't show in assemblies for some reason.  If you want the circle to show then while in your drawing go to Insert then click on Model Items.  Under Source pick "Entire Model" deselect the "Marked for Drawing" icon under dimensions and pick the  "Cosmetic Thread" icon under the Annotations label and hit the check mark at the top.  This should bring in the circle that you want along with the thread description (which I usually delete because I use the Hole Callout command to dimension it).  I'm not sure why, but anytime you work with assemblies in drawings you have to do this, or at least I do anyways.  It has been this way for several releases and I'm using SW2007 SP2.1 now.
