Checking for Interferences in a Weldment?

Checking for Interferences in a Weldment?

Checking for Interferences in a Weldment?

(OP)
Is it possible?  I am building structures using square and rectangular tube using the weldment feature.  I have to go around after and make sure all corners, etc. are trimmed and sometimes I miss some corners.  Is there a tool to help with this , much like the assembly interference detection tool?

Thanks

RE: Checking for Interferences in a Weldment?

There is no tool specifically for detecting weldment interferences. However, a couple of relatively quick workarounds are;

1) Switch the view to wireframe. Sometimes it is easier to see if lines intersect that way.

2) Use the Combine function with the Common and Show Preview options selected. As bodies are selected (usually only two at a time unfortunately) any interference will be highlighted.

Here is a wild idea. You could model each tube, cut angles and drill holes as separate tubes. Then assemble as unit and weld.

Hi, rjason71:

You can do multibody interference checking.  Just put your multibody part into an assembly and run "Interference Detection" with "Include multibody part interference" option.

Good Luck!

rgrayclamps ... I knew there was a better way but darned if I could think of it. That was a SolidProfessor trick from way back. A for you.

Bradley ... You don't like Weldments?

CorBlimeyLimey,
I love weldments. Our machine shop is requiring us to draw each piece, so they can machine each piece on a mill. Then they weld it up.
I was wondering if anyone else did this?

RE: Checking for Interferences in a Weldment?

You can make drawings of individual weldment bodies using "relative views". I do it all the time.

alolesen,
That would have been a good idea. We have to detail out each item as piece part and dimension.

Hi, CorBlimeyLimey:

Thanks for the star!  I feel good of earning a star from a fellow forum member like you.  By the way, how do I give a star to fellow forum members when I post a message?

Thanks,

Alex
