editing PDFs

editing PDFs

(OP)
All our released drawings get saved as unprotected PDFs and stored in a "vault" on the network.

Somehow a model got "lost" during a corporate "realignment", and naturally now I need to update 1 small view and a few notes.

We have Acrobat 5, but the text in the PDF was apparently not saved as text, so the normally poor editing capabilities of Acrobat are now even poorer.

I was looking at programs that claim to turn PDFs into editable Office documents, including tables and graphics.  ScanSoft's PDF converter PRO 4 looks pretty interesting.

There are other programs that claim to turn PDFs into DWG or dxf format.

Any recomendations or warnings?

Thanks

Dan Timberlake

RE: editing PDFs

Adobe Illustrator is the best way to edit a pdf. Its about 500 for CS2 but i bet you could find an older version for cheaper.

RE: editing PDFs

You must have saved the drawing using SolidWorks. Why not open the original in SolidWorks and making your changes? Then save it out to pdf again. You speak of a vault; if this is a true PDM vault you will have the original.

Dan,

Check out Bluebeam I use it regularly to modify pdf's and really like it.

Costs about $200.

RE: editing PDFs

Dan,

I recommend upgrading to the lastest Adobe Acrobat Professional.  If that doesn't work, then you may need Illustrator.  However, given the nature of Acrobat, you may not be able to directly do what you are asking.  Just depends on how the file the itself.

Do you have backups? I always keep file in the PDMW Vault and backups stored in a different location.
If you go with a software for editing PDF's, keep it within engineering only or anyone can change them.
