COSMOS Hardware
COSMOS Hardware
(OP)
I've got COSMOS PROFESSIONAL NETWORK Edition and when an engineer is using it, it takes up all the processing power of his system. I am considering setting up a DELL POWEREDGE DUAL XEON server as a dedicated COSMOS box that an engineer could remote into and run stress analysis on, without disrupting his other work. My question is weather or not I need to install a high end graphics card in the box?
Is COSMOS a graphics intensive program? We all know it's a processor intensive one.

RE: COSMOS Hardware
no, by definition it's not. BUT... due to the fact that it uses the graphical libraries of SolidWorks, a minimum of 3D graphic power is indeed needed. I'd stay on an entry-level PROFESSIONAL graphic card. Ensure that it accelerates all the OPEN GL functions in hardware (and not by software...); at least v.1.2 of the OpenGL are needed, better is a card supporting - in hardware - the most recent releases of these graphical libraries.
Also note that, if you remote-control the computer, the graphical perf will most likely not be limited by the graphic card but by the network connection... For these applications, at least a Gigabit Ethernet is an absolute minimum!!!
