Condenser Motor

(OP)
I am replacing a condenser motor for a roof top air conditioner.  I keep finding motors that meet all the specs but the shaft is longer.  Can I cut the shaft without reducing the effectiveness of the motor?

RE: Condenser Motor

Yes - as long as it is the outgoing shaft you cut...  smile

Serious, there might be a small issue with balancing since you reduce the "negative" mass represented by the keyway. But, if you also use a shorter key, that should not be a problem. If you have a Woodruff key, it doesn't matter.

RE: Condenser Motor

I agree with Skogsgurra, but check that the shaft diameter fits your coupling.
