Resource / Manual for on-lot septic design?

Resource / Manual for on-lot septic design?

Is there an "aashto green book" of the septic tank world?  Any resources where I could do some self-study, or is septic design all learn by rote?

RE: Resource / Manual for on-lot septic design?

I don't know about your area... you might want to talk to an installer.  In Ontario, I've designed several systems... it's a matter of determining the soil characteristics (percolation rate), this can be done by gradation or by running a Percolation Test.

It's a matter of determining the daily effluent... this can be done by building area, fixture units, and/or occupant load.

Having the daily effluent, it's a matter of sizing the unit or type of septic system and obtaining the necessary approvals.  This may vary depending on the locale.

Check this site. (http://www.eco-nomic.com/septic.htm)
it's not a green book, but very close to it. Drawigs, which could be bought, are equally good. Good luck!

I've found the EPA books to be the closest thing to what you're asking for.  And one them's got a mostly green cover to boot!!

EPA Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems Manual is one and the other is the older EPA Onsite Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems.
