Wood Shear Wall on Moment Frame

Wood Shear Wall on Moment Frame

(OP)
If you have a multi-story, primarily wood structure, with shear walls bearing on a steel moment frame.  How do you typically transfer the shear wall forces to the moment frame?  I have heard of different methods for this connection, but would like to get a broader idea of the construction techniques.

RE: Wood Shear Wall on Moment Frame

Bolts to the top flange of the frame.

Do you weld the bolts to t he frame, or do you offset and thru bolt it?  Do you add stiffeners at the hold-down?

RE: Wood Shear Wall on Moment Frame

I weld studs to the top flange.  Analyze the moment frame with overturning loads from the shearwall to see if you need stiffeners.
