I am working on a building that is masonry with a concrete and steel deck diaphragm.  I am using a steel wide flange beam between shear walls because I am unsure if the k-joists can take a 20,000 lb Em level drag force.  The problem is tying the strut to the wall with studs and a weld plate for tension and compression.  I usually have used rebar in the slab and embedded them into the wall for the tension part and then the drag strut for the compression part.  Seems a little too redundant for me but I don't know any other way to take car of the tension and compression drag forces.
