SDR-21 VS PVC for supply line
SDR-21 VS PVC for supply line
(OP)
our company sells 1" sdr-21 pvc pipe. we use this in our low pressure watering systems that do not see pressures go beyond 1 psi.
some of our customers have purchased this pipe not only for the use of our product but to plumb their entire barn with it. we have always recommended that they plumb from a water well with standard sch 40 pvc (supply side).
my question: can sdr-21 pipe be recommended to plumb a barn? and if it can be used could you plumb a residence with the same pipe? our spec is ASTM 2241.
thank-you

Most US "plastic" residential water systems are CPVC (to handle the hot side), copper tube size, but are also SDR piping systems

It appears the CPVC CTS system is SDR 11, rated at 400 psi @ 73 Deg F
Your thinking of sch40 makes some sense, but watch for the hot water side!
As said before, the local codes trump all!

there will be NO hot water going through these pipes. only cold well water.
