GHP?

GHP?

(OP)
I am reviewing specifications of a truck required to have a turbocharged diesel engine of GHP 325 horsepower.

I understand BHP.  I do not understand GHP.

   Could this be gross horsepower?

I have found some stuff on Gas HorsePower, but this appears to have nothing to do with truck diesel engines.

   Is this a typo?

RE: GHP?

Well, it could be a typo too!  I would ask the author of the spec and obtain clarification.

fyi, searching the internet i came across this website:
http://www.dieselnet.com/news/1997/01jm.php

note the differences in the title and the summary.

then again, at this website, note the meaning of ghp at bottom of page:
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FZX/is_9_71/ai_n15653880

short of getting clarification from the author, clarify the spec &/or the units of measurement to avoid any mis-understandings, etc.

good luck!

RE: GHP?

GHP has always been Gas Horsepower as far as I know.

RE: GHP?

It could well be gross as you have said - meaning that the engine is capable of producing in an overload condition for a short period an increased output.

RE: GHP?

I may be wrong on this, and I am sure at least 4 people will correct me if I am.
I was under the impression that gross horsepower was that generated by an engine without any accessories such as water pump and generator, and that nett horsepower was that generated by the same engine with those accessories added.

RE: GHP?

At the end of the day - ask the manufacturer which negates all the second guessing.
