Gm DCS toolkit

Gm DCS toolkit

Gm DCS toolkit

(OP)
Hello,
Does anyone have any information on where to purchase the GM(DCS) toolkit, and a price.  Our company is looking to buy this for a current GM Defiance Plant job.  I have called UG support and the GM helpdesk and have had no luck.  It is my understanding that the toolkit validates the Cad models to GM's standards, catagories, etc.. Any information would be great.

P.S. We Currently Run NX2,3,&4

Thanks in Advance!

RE: Gm DCS toolkit

The last I dealt with GM (back in January) they were in the process of retiring the toolkit and moving to a customized version of NX Checkmate.  Either way, you need a license to run either of them.  The license needed for the toolkit is about $1000.00 plus monthly maintenance.  The license for NX Checkmate is about $2000.00 plus maintenance.  You will download the toolkit from the UGS FTP server.

You need to get your company registered at gmsupplypower.com in order to get all the information you'll need.  I would recommend that you get with your superior and discuss this before diving in blindly.  The registration can affect your entire company and isn't anything like signing up for a news bulletin.  It affects all aspects of your company business with GM and an administrator will need to be chosen for your company.

Once you sign up, look for the Engineering area and you'll want to find anything related to Blockpoint (this is the stupid GM name for updating software or migrating).  I suppose update or migration is a term that's too simple and easily understood to use.

I would strongly recommend outsourcing the GM portion of the modeling/drafting unless you're dealing with large numbers of NX parts on a daily or weekly basis.  We were able to have a single part and drawing submitted to GM for $55.00 and that covered up to 10 hours worth of work in NX.  If you're going to be working on just a few GM programs each year, then this is definitely the way to go.  It's much simpler to just let someone else do it than try to teach yourself and/or get into a training class, not to mention the expenses.

Thanks nkwheelguy for your input.  Should we go to someone like best CAD solutions for any outsourcing?

RE: Gm DCS toolkit

Anyone who offers service to GM.  They'll need to have the Toolkit/Checkmate or whatever GM is currently requiring as well as a TcAE connection with access to the appropriate GM databases when they send the models/drawings into GM's system, if that is in fact going to be required as well.

I'd get a few quotes, talk with each vendor and then decide based on price mainly.

RE: Gm DCS toolkit

GM has been working on moving some parts of the PDL into a checkmate solution. That in mind it will not replace the entire PDL just one part of the PDL, the Compliance part. You will still need to fill out the file log, required categories, and Organize. The check part is still in the PDL and when GM does change will probably be the same or similar button.

As for the cost and where to buy I'm not sure other then contact UGS and see if they are the seller of this toolkit for GM. If not contact your GM project manager/contact and they should be able to route you to the appropriate channels.

The Teamcenter link to GM is not always a requirement. It depends on what center you are submitting work to. Some require you go through a Tier 1 supplier where others allow you to submit native GM/PDL Compliant data to and they will import into the GM Teamcenter.

A lot of variables to think about. The GM PDL is a good set of applications regardless if it is a requirement to have. I personally would get it just for the Inquire application to clean up the files.
