RE: district cooling

There is alot involved in designing district cooling plant. I have been thru 4 in my career. One was ammonia and the other 3 were freon. HP was in the 15,000 to 25,000 HP ranges. All were unique in there design, all ran differently and had various efficiencies.

Questions you need to ask yourself are:

Is there any savings for off peak usage charges?
Can you use ammonnia?
Are there peak rate charges?
Can you use a CCHP aplication?
When are your best electrical rates?
What tonnage ranges are you looking at?
What is the service capabilities of the service companies in your area?
Is your power provider offering any incentives for certain types of systems?

I would start with these questions. Before you can design a plant you need to know these answers. Otherwise your just shooting from the hip. JMHO

RE: district cooling

have a look at http://www.districtenergy.org/

If it is a large system I hope you have some experienced designer on board as there are many design/control issues that need to be considered over and above that required for typical building designs.
