Proper thermometer installation
Proper thermometer installation
(OP)
I am looking to install thermometers in a radiant heating system. I want to install them into the run of the supply and return on large loops and was wondering if the whole stem of the thermometer should sit in the entire way or is just the tip ok. 3/4 copper tubing and the thermometer has a stem that is 5/16 in dia. Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance

RE: Proper thermometer installation
Uponor Wirsbo offers a nice (cheap) little dial-type thermometer which comes with a little brass well with a metric thread and o-ring- probably a G 1/4. It's designed for use with their (expensive) manifold fittings. I just bought 3/4 x 1/2" solder socket tees for each thermometer location (nominal size copper water "pipe" (i.e. 1/2" nominal "pipe" is actually 5/8" OD), threaded the ID of the 1/2" branch using a 1/4" NPT tap, threaded in the well and SOLDERED the threaded joint to seal it. Seals perfectly and works well.
