Galling resistance of AL6XN vs C276
Galling resistance of AL6XN vs C276
(OP)
Our current design uses a C276 nut on a AL6XN threaded rod in a seawater environment. I am looking at replacing the C276 nut with a AL6XN one but am concerned about galling. Does anyone have experience with AL6XN fasteners or know where to find more information?

Why are you looking to change?

I would try to get a hold of Allegheny Ludlum , the daddy of AL6XN, and see if they have some data on galling.

I have always used C276 nuts since I could by them out of stock and not order specials. Look into having your bolt threads made by rolling. There are a lot of small roll houses around that would make a small run. I think that you will like the results.

Think you sat in on my NACE paper last month in Nashville. Alloy 31 in phos acid. Thanks for the positive feedback.
