Determining mixing power
Determining mixing power
(OP)
I'm trying to calculate the requried mixing HP of a current mixer. This is in a baffled reactor with a 2 blade visco prop. I'm going from 100 cP to 500 cP and need to make sure the current motor HP is still adquate. I've looked in my Perry's, but I don't remember how to do it. Any help would be great. I believe I have all the data. Blade diameter, viscosity, rpm, my calcs are telling me my re is >10000

RE: Determining mixing power
If that does work for you, post your calcs and we'll be glad to comment on them. You need to have a Power Number vs. Reynolds Number correlation or graph for your exact impeller. The right type, the right number of blades, the right angle on the blades, an exact match on everything is best. Otherwise, you have to "adjust" what you calculate using factors from mixing textbooks and literature.
Good luck,
