2-D drawing without update

How do I create several 2-D configurations of a assembly in one 2-D view (front view for example)? What I am trying to do is, trying to capture various positions of link in an assembly using the front view and keep all the configurations in one view showing the relationships of angles, shortest length etc. When I rotate/move the link from one position to the other the 2-D drawing updates to the new link position when I open it and I loose the previous position information. How do I change the model, update the 2-D dwg, still keep my previous configuration(s) show in the 2-D dwg ?

RE: 2-D drawing without update

You need to create (in the assembly) one configuration for each position of the mechanism that you want to show.  Ideally, each assembly configuration should be fully constrained, either by applying different mates or using different dimensions on an angle or distance mate.  You can then show all of the positions in a single view using alternate position views.

RE: 2-D drawing without update

Look in SW help at "Alternate position view". It will tell you everything you need to know.

Thank you both, I will look into solidworks help. I did not know the right search word. Thanks again,
