Highlighting an element issue

Highlighting an element issue

Highlighting an element issue

(OP)

My job is aborted because of the following message

"The area of 1 elements is zero, small, or negative. Check coordinates or node numbering, or modify the mesh seed. The elements have been identified in element set ErrElemAreaSmallNegZero".
I went to the Color Code to highlight this element but i could not see(arrest) it even with wearing 2 glasses (kiding) . I also went to the concerned data file but I did not find info about it. Anyone can help me capture it please.
thanks

RE: Highlighting an element issue

In Viewer you should be able to identify the set. If you can't see it amnogst all the other elements then use the display options and either highlight the set or replace the whole mesh with just that set. Then you should be able to see it. Alternatively in CAE in the mesh module you can check on the mesh verification and highlight any elements that would give you error messages or warnings. Some times though zero volume elements can occur in contact analyses when you move nodes to be initially in contact with the master/slave surface. You wouldn't be able to see them in CAE as the nodes are moved after the analysis starts.

RE: Highlighting an element issue

Cansand,

Your problem has been solved. But I would like to describe my experience. I have encountered similar problem in past. I use hypermesh for meshing. Sometimes I find that after I import the orphan mesh into ABAQUS CAE, 5 or 6 elements are tagged by ABAQUS as error elements (model size may be 200000 elements). These 5 or six elements are in areas where stress is low. I magnify the local area where these elements are and delete them. I may have to disappear some of the elements in the view to pick these error elements. This can save lot of time than trying to remesh the whole part again and does not effect the results.
