US equipments move to China

US equipments move to China

US equipments move to China

(OP)
I'm having a question:
We are having some equipments in US which to be moved to China. There is a power supply difference:
US: 460V/60HZ
CHINA: 380V/50HZ

Searched a few articles about this equipments modifications. Any one here have any good suggestions?

RE: US equipments move to China

Most motors will operate acceptably when de rated from 460/60 to 380/50.
The main issues:
The current rating will stay the same.
The torque will stay the same.
The speed will be 5/6 of the original speed.
The horsepower will be 5/6 of the original horsepower.
Secondary issues:
Cooling may be a little less at 50 Hz. but the power consumed by the fan blades on the rotor will be less. Cooling is usually not an issue. The occasional motor that is loaded to 100% may run a little over temperature.
Very few motors are loaded to exactly 100%, 100% of the time.
Many loads will have a drop in torque demands at lower speeds.
I would not worry about cooling issues unless a motor is running hot. If so, change to the next higher available HP or KW rating.
If you have any particular loads that you feel may become troublesome let us know and we will comment.
For more detailled information check the faq. itsmoked has done a good job on it.

p.s. I just realized today that I have been given an honorable mention in the faq. Thank you for the recognition Keith.

But of course!  You were instrumental in its development.

as a side note, think ahead on spare part for the equipment going to China from the US. The published voltage will be 380VAC but in reality it can often be lower than this. There's not much you can do about it other than prepare for products to be pulling higher currents than they would (certainly) in the US and if your designs have simply taken into consideration 380V.
