Removing entities

Removing entities

Removing entities

(OP)
I am fairly new to abaqus and im having problems removing some elements from a model I have made. It is a fairly complex model I have constructed from CT data but there are a few anomalous elements kicking about between features. It is easy enough to remove them but any changes I make dont seem to save with the model. Is there a way to permanently remove the elements or am I going about it wrong?

Thanks, Jake.

RE: Removing entities

Normally you don't remove elements, you either change the geometry or if the elements are bad, then remesh it. What are anomolous elements? What is CT data?

CT = computed tomography, they use them to get 3D xrays of bones etc. Im using a CT scan of an insect head and having got the .inp file into abaqus I have to remove a few elements that have appeared between the mandibles and the antennae. I tried exporting to solidworks to see if I could play with it in that but i get an error saying this part contains no geometry, maybe this is something to do with it? Anomalous elements = elements that should not be there.

Thanks, Jake

RE: Removing entities

Probably the best way is to either look at the model in CAE or do a check run in viewer and identify the element numbers you dont want and then manually delete them from the.inp file.

RE: Removing entities

Did you inport a mesh into the CAE? You could try to use the Orphan Mesh Tools and hand pick the element that you like to delete.

If you know the element number of the unwanted element. You can use *Model Change in the step.

Yes its in CAE, there are loads and loads of elements that make up the head and removing elements leaves abrupt corners (which i have just found out are even worse for the model results). I think the best thing is to go back to the original CT scan data and remove the joins from the 2D images which i did today and the model looks alot better Thanks for the input everybody!
