Head Loss & Friction Loss Calculation in pvc water pipe

Head Loss & Friction Loss Calculation in pvc water pipe

Head Loss & Friction Loss Calculation in pvc water pipe

(OP)
I Have a problem with a pipe installation & trying to Calculate what flow of water i should have to find the problem I have a reservoir 160 metres AMSL 10000 metres of class 9 PVC Pipe  Into another reservoir 113 metres AMSL the measured flow into the reservoir is 310 L/Min,  at a point 5800 metres from supply reservoir & 99 Metres AMSL i have a flow of 650 L/ Min, at a point 7900 metres from supply reservoir with an elevation of 99 metres AMSL i have a flow of 630 L/ Min at 8400 metres from supply reservoir at an elevation of 108 metres AMSL my flow drops to 415 L/ Min being  a drop of 215 Litres / Min in a short distance all flows were done at isolation points where no back flow can occur wondering if some one can calculate what flows i should have in theory against my actuals as pipe is beneath the ground need some idea as to which section should be excavated first

Antonio,

I am a bit confused about the pipe configuration.
Its not clear if you have only one pipe that runs for 10 km or if you have many pipes radiating from one reservoir.

It would be better if you can post a diagram, or describe the configuration like this...

If you could name the reservoirs A, B, C...
and give each its elevation, like this,

A 160 m
B  99 m
C  99 m
D 108 m
E 113 m

Then you could name each piece of pipe something like,

A_B, 200mm,  10  km , = a 10km pipe 200 mm diameter, starting at A going to B

C_D, 450 mm,  5.8 km = a 5.8 km pipe 450 mm diameter, starting at A going to C

etc.,

Then at least we could get a clear picture in our minds about what kind of configuration you have.

RE: Head Loss & Friction Loss Calculation in pvc water pipe

Antoniog1,

Lack of punctuation and detail is complicating the problem.  I have some questions:

AMSL?

Class 9 PVC pipe - what is the inside diameter (ID)?  Is it the same ID for the entire 10 km between reservoirs?

When is this problem due?

Do any other pipes "feed into", or are "fed from" the single 10 km pipe?

Good luck,
Latexman
